Join us for a scintillating conversation with 2024 MacArthur “genius” award grantee Dr. Martha Munoz,Assistant Professor, Dept. of Ecology & Evolutionary Biology at Yale. Learn about about her personal journey to becoming a scientist, insights from and her contributions to the field of evolutionary biology, and what it's like to find out that you’ve received a MacArthur grant! About the Speaker
Martha Muñoz is an evolutionary biologist studying the factors that accelerate and slow evolution, focusing on reptiles, amphibians, and fishes. Her research highlights the role that organisms, through their behavior, play in setting the pace for evolution. Her research was recently recognized with MacArthur award. She earned a BA (2007) from Boston University and a PhD (2014) from Harvard University. She was a postdoctoral researcher at the Australian National University (2014–2015) and Duke University (2015–2017). She joined the faculty of the Department of Biological Sciences at Virginia Tech in 2017, then moved to the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at Yale University in 2019, where she is an assistant professor. Muñoz is also an assistant curator in the Division of Vertebrate Zoology at the Yale Peabody Museum and affiliate faculty at the Yale Institute for Biospheric Studies.
