Author Gwendolyn Wallace ’21 on her Gullah heritage, Black women in publishing, and public history

Please join us for an exciting virtual event with author Gwendolyn Wallace ’21, who will be speaking about the value of children’s literature, her journey into publishing as a Black woman, her Gullah Geechee heritage, and her public history work.

About the Speaker

Gwendolyn Wallace is a researcher and children’s literature author from Connecticut. She is the author of picture books Joy Takes Root and The Light She Feels Insideas well as the forthcoming Dancing With Water. An alumna of Phillips Exeter Academy, Gwendolyn graduated from Yale with a degree in the history of science and medicine in 2021 before pursuing a master’s degree in public history at University College London. In 2021, Gwendolyn was chosen as the first fellow of the International African-American Museum. Additionally, she is on the board of The REACH Fund of Connecticut (Reproductive Equity, Access & CHoice), Connecticut’s first abortion fund. Gwendolyn can usually be found gardening, exploring used bookstores, or listening to the liberatory impulses of young children.
