Yale Alumna Dr. Anya Montiel (MA, PhD 2018), a curator at the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian, will discuss her current exhibit on the interwoven histories of Black and Indigenous peoples through art.
About the Speaker
Anya Montiel is a curator at the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian (NMAI). She earned her master's and doctorate degrees (2018) in American Studies from Yale. Her dissertation examined pervasive issues that have affected the production, marketing, selling, and display of art created by Native Americans and Alaska Natives in the United States. She will discuss her recent digital exhibition, Ancestors Know Who We Are, which explores the interwoven histories of Black and Indigenous peoples through art and how the NMAI shifted to more online exhibits and programs during the pandemic.
