Yale Alumni Virtual Performing Artists Series:
“Mother Tongue”
in Honor of Asian/Pacific-American Heritage Month
with Adrianna Tam MM ‘13 and Jing Ling-Tam

This meeting will be conducted on Zoom.  Instructions will be provided upon registration

The program will offer audience members an entry point to the Asian-American experience: How does the first-generation  immigrant survive in the face of homesickness, language and cultural barriers, and xenophobia?  How does the second-generation American reconcile their hyphenated identity? Adrianna Tam partnering with her mother, Professor Jing Ling-Tam, a renowned musician and choral conductor, the program will also tell an intergenerational story of “making it” in America.


About Dr. Adrianna Tam

Dr. Tam holds degrees from M.I.T., the Yale School of Music, the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst (Graz, Austria), and the University of Michigan. Between graduate studies in New Haven and Graz, she received a federal fellowship to study German and conducting as a participant of the Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange for Young Professionals. 

Dr. Tam firmly believes in achieving musical excellence while fostering community and compassion. In addition to her professional activities, she is the co-founder of “Out of the Blue,” a choral ensemble that offers workshop-performances in correctional facilities throughout southeast Michigan. Dr. Tam was invited to present on her work with “Out of the Blue” at Podium 2020, hosted by Choral Canada and the Alliance chorale du Québec, and onward to Graz, Austria, to lead choral workshops at the 7th International Choral Festival “Voices of Spirit.
