You are invited to our annual meeting of m embers, which will include a presentation on the state of the Club followed by an open conversation with Mary Lui, Yale Professor and Timothy Dwight H ead of College. The conversation will be focused on the historical context and current insights into the issues currently being faced by Asian Americ an communities as a result of the pandemic. Registrants are highly encoura ged to watch Professor’s Lui’s online lecture on Asian American Issues in the Pandemic Era - You Tube, prior to attending the event. This is

gistering. Not a member, you may join here. About the Speakers span> Mary Lui is a Professor of American Studies and His tory as well as the Head of Timothy Dwight College. Her primary research in terests include: Asian American history, urban history, women and gender st udies, and public history. She is the author of The Chinatown Trunk Mystery : Murder, Miscegenation, and Other Dangerous Encounters in Turn-of-the-Cent ury New York City (Princeton University Press, 2005), the 2007 co-winner of the best book prize for history from the Association of Asian American Stu dies. The book uses a 1909 unsolved murder case to examine race, gender, an d interracial sexual relations in the cultural, social and spatial formatio n of New York City Chinatown from 1870-1920. She is currently working on a new book titled, Making Model Minorities: Asian Americans, Race, and Citize nship in Cold War America at Home and Abroad, that examines the history of Asian American and U.S. cultural diplomacy in Asia in the early years of th e Cold War.
