Yale Club of Washington, D.C. In-Person Event

Yale Day of Service Event

Volunteer with the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club

Saturday, May 9, 2026

8:00am-12:00pm

Rock Creek Park Nature Center and Planetarium
Glover Road Northwest
Washington, DC 20015

The Potomac Appalachian Trail Club maintains walking trails in NW Washington, in northern and central Virginia, and on an 80-mile stretch of the Appalachian Trail.

On May 9 we will meet at the Rock Creek Park Nature Center at 8:15am. We will leave for work in Glover Archbold park in Glover Park, just north of Georgetown by 8:45. A hillside trail there is supported by cribbing on the downhill side, and we will repair or replace some of that cribbing. With enough volunteers we may perform other tasks as well, such as improving the trail bed.

The work starts with a group gathering at 8:15 and finishes by noon.

Preparation:

This project is suitable for individuals who have a high level of mobility, can walk on hilly, uneven trails without benches for sitting.
Clothing: Long pants are recommended for tick protection; otherwise lightweight clothing, and closed toe shoes.

What to bring:

  • Outdoor work gloves if you have them. Gloves will be provided for people who do not have them.
  • Water bottle
  • Insect repellant
  • Sunscreen and/or hat for sun protection

Notes:

  • Volunteers will need a car for transportation
  • Volunteers must be age 14 and older; ages 14-18 must be accompanied by an adult guardian.
