Please join the Yale Club of Washington D.C. for a virtual Black History Month conversation profiling the achievements of Black Soldiers in WWII  led by Hyatt M. Howard CC/GH ’11 and moderated by Antonio L. Ingram II ES’11. 

Profiles in Honor: Black Soldiers in WWII:  More than one million African American men and women served in the U.S. armed forces during World War II.  Serving with distinction these men and women made invaluable contributions to the advancement of democracy abroad and at home. Come join this exciting discussion to learn more about these American heroes. 


 

About the Speakers

Hyatt M. Howard is an experienced attorney specializing in advising nonprofits  and philanthropic organizations. He serves as a senior attorney at a private foundation and has a passion for Black History. Hyatt began his legal career at Cravath Swaine and Moore LLP in New York City. He then clerked for the Honorable Michael P. Shea in the Federal District of Connecticut. Following his clerkship, he practiced law at Patterson Belknap Webb & Tyler LLP. Throughout his legal career, he has maintained an active pro bono practice and has taught at Yale College. He has co-authored several amicus briefs filed in the United States Supreme Court and has worked with CUNY Law School on its clemency and parole initiative. He has also lectured on constitutional law as a Silliman College Fellow at Yale University. For his exceptional contributions as a legal practitioner, he has been recognized by The Best Lawyers in America ® Ones to Watch for 2021, 2022, and 2023. He was also awarded the New York County Lawyers Association's Pro Bono Award. Hyatt cares deeply about his community. He has served on several nonprofit boards. Hyatt is admitted as a member of the New York State Bar, the Second Circuit Court of Appeals, the Southern District of New York, and the Eastern District of New York. Hyatt graduated Yale University with distinction and Duke University School of Law with honors.

Antonio L. Ingram II serves as Senior Counsel at the Legal Defense Fund, where he works on cases and matters that advance racial justice in educational equity and political participation. Antonio is a Racial Justice Fellow at the Carr-Ryan Center at the Harvard Kennedy School for the 2025-2026 academic year. Antonio received his J.D. from UC Berkeley School of Law and B.A. from Yale College and served as a law clerk to the Honorable Ivan L.R. Lemelle on the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana and Chief Judge Roger L. Gregory for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. Between his federal clerkships, Mr. Ingram served as a Fulbright Public Policy Fellow to Malawi where he served as a special assistant in Malawi’s Anti-Corruption Bureau.
