Religious Belief and Personal Practice: The Intersection of Religion, Identity, Gender and Race with Dr. Brianne A. Painia

Thursday, April 15, 2021

6:30-7:30pm

This meeting will be conducted on Zoom

Instructions will be provided upon registration

Dr. Brianne A. Painia will speak about the intersection of religious identity, gender roles, and race for religious women -- the topic of her current research. “Having grown up in a Baptist church in the South, I was interested in how that culture impacts our lives and different axes of identity,” Dr Painia recently told YaleNews. “I thought the question of how women practice a kind of feminism but are Southern Baptist was an interesting one. How do you adopt the identities taught in biblical texts while also living something that is at odds with it?“
