This meeting will be conducted on Zoom.  Instructions will be provided upon registration

In honor of Jewish American History Month, please join us for an evening of history and song! Dr. Dan Oren ’79, MD’84 will give a presentation on the history of Jews at Yale, while Yale’s Jewish a capella singing group Magevet will entertain us with their music.

About the Speaker

Dan A. Oren received a BS from Yale College in 1979 and an MD from Yale School of Medicine in 1984. He was professionally trained as a psychiatrist and over the decades has worked as a researcher at the NIH, Yale University, the University of Rzeszów and Bristol-Myers Squibb. He is a former president of the Board of the Slifka Center for Jewish Life at Yale and author of Joining The Club: A History of Jews and Yale, published by Yale University Press in 1986 and in an updated 2001 edition as part of the Yale Tercentennial collection. He is currently Associate Professor of Psychiatry (Adjunct) at Yale. His research interest is the effect of light in the treatment of depression.

About Magevet

Founded in 1993, Magevet is one of the nation’s premiere Jewish a cappella singing groups. A coed ensemble comprised of undergraduate students at Yale University, Magevet is known for its sweet blend of voices, unique arrangements, and lighthearted sense of humor. The group’s diverse repertoire spans modern Israeli pop and Renaissance choral pieces to Yiddish folk tunes and Zionist classics. The members of Magevet are equally diverse: engineers and historians, Jews and Gentiles, New Yorkers and Californians, all united by camaraderie and a love of singing.
