Wrap Presents to Support Literacy
37% of adults in Washington, DC are unable to read. They cannot complete a job application, read to a child or follow directions on a prescription label.
The Washington Literacy Council (WLC) is the largest provider of basic adult literacy services in Washington, DC. Its’ mission is to raise the literacy level of adults and children in our nation’s capital.
During the holiday season, WLC will be conducting its annual Gift Wrapping Campaign at Politics & Prose. Bookstore patrons make a donation of $1.00 to have their gifts wrapped. Donations benefit WLC.
Politics & Prose is located at 5015 Connecticut Avenue, NW. Holiday store hours are 9am to 10pm Monday through Saturday and 10am to 9pm on Sundays.
Volunteers are needed for one, two and three hour shifts from Friday, November 27 through Thursday, December 24. Typically, two volunteers work a given shift.
If you would like to volunteer for a shift – perhaps with another Yalie -, please email Celeste Bagley at Celestial1603@aol.com and request a copy of the wrapping schedule.
