Community Services Committee

Puts together monthly community service opportunities for members and administers the Community Service Summer Fellowship Program

Each spring, the Association of Yale Alumni designates one or two Yale undergraduates as Community Service Fellows.  The Fellows spend the summer working for a community-based organization in Washington, DC.  The Yale Club of Washington, DC provides a stipend and arranges housing for the fellows with Yale alumni.

The Community Service Committee also presents the Yale Club of Washington, DC Book Award to outstanding Washington area high school seniors who support their communities through volunteerism.  These awards are usually presented during awards ceremonies at local high schools.

In addition, the Committee organizes volunteer activities so Washington area alumni can improve the quality of life in their community. Examples of recent volunteer activities range from helping eighth graders at a KIPP DC charter school write essays for applications to private schools to painting and landscaping Garnett Patterson Junior High as part of Hands on DC.

From time to time, the Yale Club also makes members aware of board service opportunities with local nonprofits. Two such opportunities are described below.
